Instead of treating type as a tool for pure clarity and efficiency\, this lecture dives into the strange\, political\, and often radical history of illegible typography—from early avant-garde experiments and countercultural posters to AI-generated fonts\, machine-readable type\, and designs made for non-human readers. \n\n\n\nWe’ll examine moments when illegibility becomes a deliberate strategy: to slow readers down\, exclude or protect communities\, resist surveillance\, confuse machines\, or communicate beyond language. Along the way\, we’ll touch on graphic design\, poetry\, interface design\, accessibility studies\, and artificial intelligence. \n\n\n\nTopics include: \n\n\n\n• Illegibility as expression\, refusal\, or care \n\n\n\n• Typography for machines\, bots\, and algorithms \n\n\n\n• AI-encountered type and synthetic reading \n\n\n\n• Accessibility versus opacity \n\n\n\n• Who typography is for—and who gets left out \n\n\n\nNo prior typography knowledge required. Wilder has a deep appreciation and wonder for life\, evident in her evocative\, nostalgia-laden narratives. She often channels Old Hollywood glam; her floral and satin dresses skew toward core influence Lana Del Rey. Despite her grander aesthetic choices\, Cloe’s dreamy\, warm performance is immediate and intimate.Her Americana-inspired\, third EP “Life’s A Bitch” reflects on her past and takes the reins of her future— her honesty as a storyteller shines through in her lyricism. The driving “Heavyweight Champion” glitters darkly\, while “Tallahassee” is gentler. On the poppier “Cigarette\,” she chuckles at her misguidance. Trying that first cig was something of a metaphor. As a working performer on a different course from her college-bound friends\, she wanted a moment of rebellion\, too.Cloe’s ability to rasp or float over piano and guitar give feelings of both groundedness and flight.
